Following the path of the French Humanists
It is in Paris that the Golden age of French Humanist photography took place, with photographers such as René Jacques, Jean Dieuzaide, Robert Doisneau, Willy Ronis and Henry Cartier Bresson. All French photographers interested in street photography have in some way been influenced by the French humanists. Their photographs are real gems, and are part of French history, documenting the everyday life of French people during the 40′s, 50′s, 60′s and later. They make Paris seem timeless. Nowadays, Paris is still one of those cities where time seems to have stopped thanks to its wonderful architecture, historical monuments and well designed parks. You can still feel this unique French atmosphere when wandering its streets, its food and flee markets, and the Seine river bank where Parisians comes to relax in the summertime. Observing life in the French capital is endless, as are the opportunities to shoot moments of life. This workshop is a great opportunity to follow the path of some of the French humanists, while documenting everyday Parisian life and discovering Parisian culture.
Date & Schedule:
Thursday 22nd August – Sunday 25th August 2013
Maximum number of participants: 3.
What to expect?
One week of intense shooting in a friendly way in various districts of the city. During the day, I will give you advice on how to improve your approach of street photography, your composition and how to capture better moments of life while developing your own vision of the world. The workshop’s angle is not technical, although I will answer any technical questions. However, it is better that you already know how to use your camera and that you have basic knowledge in practising photography.
Rules are made to be broken, but to break them it is important at first to understand them. I do believe in strong composition as part of the making of a good photograph. During the workshop, I will teach you how to compose a photograph and balance forms & elements from the foreground to the background to create simple or multi layered photographs.
In a friendly group of 4 participants maximum, you will get advice and individual attention during our daily shoot so that you can improve your approach to photography and develop your own vision of the world.
During the workshop I will organise some exercises to work on particular themes in order to improve creativity, photographic composition, approach and style.
It is a very important part of the workshop. Every day I will spend some time with you assessing and constructively criticising your work while giving you some advice, tips and recommendations on how to improve your photographs.
I will start the workshop by talking about my work and my approach of photography through a studying of some of my photographs.
